The A-listers channeled their inner dark angel’s at this years VMA’s, with deliciously dark tones ruling the red carpet. Ok, so it may not be the most fashion-forward trend of the moment, but nobody can deny the timeless elegance (and trusty faithfulness!) of the LBD. A fabulous black dress is a great investment as it’s not a faddy trend that will fall off the fashion radar quicker than the time it takes you to have the overwhelming urge to punch Jedward in the face when they appear on your TV screens.  And these celebs look anything but dull, each choosing to add a unique touch to their LBD’s.

Lily Allen’s made like Kate Middleton and wore not one but two wedding gowns on her big day earlier this summer. The incredible empire-waisted Chanel gown designed by Karl Lagerfield featured sheer bell sleeves adding to the romance of the dress.

Kate Moss looks the picture of happiness on her wedding eve earlier this month. Her aqua vintage gown with flowing skirt and bell sleeves created a 70′s hippy princess look although I’m not sure on the crushed velvet Tabitha Simmons boots, a pair of embellished flats would have added a gorgeously laid-back glamorous twist to the look.

Heavy Metal

All things metallic have been huge this season giving easy, wearable glamour to summer pieces. Amy Childs Vs Jodie Marsh is So Couture

We’ve seen it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and in this fashion face-off we have it all. The dress in question, a So Couture number and the contenders: Amy Childs, the Essex sweetheart who doesn’t know where North London is, and Jodie Marsh, Jordan’s arch rival who once asked if an egg was a vegetable...

Luckily this isn’t a competition regarding brains, but beauty. I think Amy scrubs up quite nicely whilst leaving the Daybreak studios in mid May, complimenting the camel tones of her dress with some nude leg lengthening peep toes and a Gucci tote. Yes, her tan is rather on the orange side, but I’m prepared to let that slip – you have to admire her honesty as this is the lady who admits that a nice mahogany hue is her perfect shade of tan!
Jodie Marsh chose to wear her dress to an eyebrow party (the phrase “would show up at the opening of an envelope” springs to mind) and paired her dress with black bow detail courts,her hair styled in a big black ponytail and a lot of black make up. In my opinion her harsh styling and abundance of tattoos spoil what could be a very lovely ladylike look.

Now I pity any woman that goes up against the fashion juggernaut that is Rihanna in the style stakes, but I think Kylie more than holds her own in this Emilio Pucci Spring 2011 embellished blue long sleeved dress.There was certainly no style “SOS” needed while both these pop princesses wore this fabulous frock.
The 43 year old pint-sized beauty looked better than some women half her age, pairing her blue mini with silver sparkly and strappy Jimmy Choo ‘Blythe’ sandals, red toenails, and chic make-up as she promoted her Aphrodite tour in Brisbane just 3 days ago.
Rihanna wore her blue backless number back in November at the MTV EMA after party. She worked her look with a flaming beehive up-do to show of the beautiful low-cut, scooped back detail of the dress and pointed silver pumps.

Eva Mendes is angelic in Thierry Mulger

Wow. It was if Eva Mendes had been dropped down from heaven to make all us ordinary folk feel (and look) bad when she was showcased as the new face of  Thierry Mulger Angel fragrance last week.
Looking positively radiant in an ivory column gown with a sculpted winged bodice designed by man of the night, Thierry Mulger, there was no doubt that Eva truly epitomised the angel perfume she was endorsing . Eva chose sparkling silver to accessorise, pairing a silver bracelet and earrings and silver Sobek Christian Louboutin peep- toe heels – perfect for picking out the tiny silver hip detail on the dress. The sexy senorita rounded off her look with her impeccably chic make-up-defined brows, flawless skin and nude lips. My only tiny niggle would be that a up-do would have shown off the unusual winged neckline of her dress to better effect than her free flowing locks.
Unfortunately the dress isn’t available for us mere mortals to purchase, but if you are looking to recreate Eva’s angel-like look, then it would be worth checking out bridal and prom companies and department stores for inspiration. This Ivory Evening Dress has a similarly structured bodice (unfortunately without wings – but, hey, you can be a fallen angel!) and silver detail and is a reasonable £250.

Kim Kardashain Vs Paris Hilton in Sass and Bide

This fashion face-off features two Hollywood A-listers famous for doing, well nothing, actually. But, hey, I’m not here to judge on career choices, I deal only in style slander, fashion faux-pas and the occasional trend triumph! Paris Hilton wore this Sass and Bide peplum mini back in June and paired it with a dodgy orange tan, copious amounts of silver bling, pale frosted lip gloss and some rather questionable white pumps. All which would have been acceptable if she was attending a 90s fancy dress party which unfortunately she wasn’t, resulting in a look teetering on the edge of tacky. On the other hand, Kim Kardashian and her killer curves were made for this peplum style dress. She added grey Costume National platforms and a colour popping red Herve Leger clutch and wore her luscious locks loose for an effortlessly glam look.

Maria Sharapova hits a winner in Alexander McQueen

Maria Sharapova may not have won Wimbledon this year but she wins the fashion grand slam in her head to toe Alexander McQueen get up. The modified Pre-Fall 2011 mini has to take the the title of the Queen of LBD’s, with its halter-neck, backless design complete with gold embellishment. The thigh skimming flirty hemline showed off her endless legs and athletic figure to perfection, and she kept her hair and make-up effortlessly simple, allowing the statement dress to take centre court limelight. Just when you thought the look couldn’t get any hotter, Maria scores a game, set, and match with her AMAZING McQueen heels. The T-Bar sandal complete with deliciously high stiletto heel created a serious case of shoe envy in shoe-obsessed style sisters everywhere. She rounded off the look with yet more McQueen goodies, this time in the shape of a cute gold clutch.

Courtney Cox Vs Kate Moss in Lanvin

Courteney Cox certainly added some style venom to her look when she wore this gorgeous snake print dress to the Critics Choice awards last month. Pairing the look with a waist-cinching belt and simple (albeit a bit boring) black strappy sandals, Courteney ensured the stand out print of the dress wasn’t overshadowed by fussy accessories. Kate Moss also wore this lovely Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Lanvin dress out for dinner last week. As always she worked her Moss magic on the look, pulling off the effortlessly casual, yet glamorous look (that when attempting to replicate usually results in me looking like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards) with ease. She paired the dress with a Chanel handbag, Christian Loboutin’s and a white blazer.

Gwyneth Paltrow Vs January Jones in Gerard Darel

January Jones! What would Betty Draper say about this style mis-match that you wore in June? I imagine she’d tell you that being pregnant is simply no excuse for dressing like a slob. Layering this Gerard Darel maxi skirt with two tops does nothing but add bulk to the Mad Men star’s figure. She would have been much better off proudly displaying her bump and just don’t even get me started on the socks and battered boots combo. Don’t think you’re getting let off lightly either, Gwyneth Paltrow! Yes, you looked lovely earlier this month wearing the skirt as a dress, but what about those dreadful tan marks? Have you not heard of a bandeau bikini? That aside, Gwyneth wins this fashion face off hands down for me, I love her relaxed style as she teams the dress with a simple  brown plaited waist belt and Sam Edelman Gigi flat sandals. Both ladies also have a similar taste in sunglasses, choosing dark wayfarer style sunnies.

Ashley Tisdale Vs Savannah Jayde in Lucca Couture

Nikelodeon star Savannah Jayde (yes I didn’t know who she was either) wore this Lucca Couture body con dress first to the Cars 2 premier back in June. Pairing the dress with her lovely corkscrew curls and understated make-up keeps the look pretty, whilst the  black peep-toe ankle boots and red nail polish toughens up the look. The perfect balance of girly glamour with an edge if you ask me!
Meanwhile Ashley Tisdale wore the same dress in blue and white to the 2011 Comic-Con international event a couple of weeks ago. She looks nice enough but in all honesty I’m just too distracted by her very dark roots to properly take in the outfit…I did manage to drag my eyes away for enough time  to notice that she paired the dress with Ruthie Davis nude peep-toe heels.

Ex-TOWIE star Amy Childs wore this sunshine skater-style dress first last week at a This Morning appearance and teamed her dress with a plaited tan belt and black patent peep-toe heels. The colour-popping dress looked fab on the flame-haired reality princess, who has even parred down her mahogany-hue tan, seems maybe you can take the girl out of Essex…
Myleene Klass took inspiration from Amy’s summery look by wearing the £46 dress the very next day on a trip out in London. Despite claiming on Twitter that she looked “like a pineapple” she also looked great in the canary coloured look. She chose to team her look with nude platform pumps, over sized sunnies,Lulu Guinness leopard print bag and yellow nails.
The dress is currently sold out in Topshop but you can get a similar one with  this Pleat Skirt Skater Dress (£40). So who goes to the top of the “Klass” with their on-trend look? Is Tyra Banks a super hero or super geek in Thierry Mulger

Do you think Tyra Banks was trying to tell the casting director of the upcoming new Batman film that they missed a trick when overlooking her for the role of Catwoman? It certainly looked that way when she attended the Teen Choice Awards last night in a black leather Thierry Mulger catsuit with yellow piping. Describing her look as a “fierce bumble bee” she teamed the sweetheart neckline catsuit with feline eyes, a bright red lip, black strappy heels and a chunky cuff.
Yes, the catsuit is slightly unflattering and frankly, a bit weird, but I think Tyra deserves to be applauded for her fun choice, and the Teen Choice Awards is the perfect place to showcase some originality. The look may have a few,erm, faults but it shows off Tyra’s incredible figure and makes a refreshing change from the play it safe choices that were popular on the night.
Like the look but want less super hero and more supermodel? Taylor Swift's a winner in Rafael Cennamo

It was a good turn out for Taylor Swift at the 2011 Teen Choice awards this week as she picked up, not one or two, but a whopping six gongs at the event including the Choice Music Female Artist and Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of Miss Swift’s country warbling tones, but I have to agree that she’s certainly earning some serious style credentials with her red carpet outfit choices.
Looking chic and sophisticated in a white ’50s style Rafael Cennamo dress, the leggy actress and singer wore her hair in a tousled relaxed ponytail to show off the halter neck style of the frock. However, there’s always room for improvement and I think Taylor could have toughened up her pretty and pure look with some edgier footwear and ditched the sparkly Ranjana Khan belt which has something of a ’90s diamante craze feel to it.

Evan Rachel Wood Vs Solange Knowles in Dolce & Gabbana

Never has such a trend placed itself so firmly on the celebrity style radar as the Dolce and Gabbana star print. Showcased on the catwalks back in February,the A-list can’t get enough of the look with everyone from  Jessica Alba to Olivia Wilde starstruck by the playful print.
True Blood star Evan Rachel Wood wore the Fall 2011 star print pants first in July. Marylin Manson’s ex (good job her taste in fashion is better than her taste in men…) rocked the look pairing the trousers with a grey Dolce and Gabbana T-Shirt with a print of actor Dennis Hopper, a leather biker jacket and grey pointed heels.  While Solange Knowles wore hers  to a D&G party and added a button up white shirt, black blazer, and patent heels.

For me, Evan wins this star style-off for her original styling as she works the rock chick vibe to a tee. Emma Stone Vs Lady Gaga in Tom Ford

I find it hard to imagine that anyone would ever share the same style with the uber fashion forward Lady Gaga, but in one of her more normal creations, a Tom Ford structured lace dress, it seems she shares her style with actress Emma Stone. Emma wore the black version of the Fall 2011 modified Guipure Lace Dress to the Crazy, Stupid, Love premiere in July and paired the elegant dress with Christian Louboutins, red lips and swept over hair. Lady Gaga wore the dress for an appearance on MTV news with the usual weird Gaga accessories.

Emma is fast becoming a style icon in her own rights, and it’s not the first time she has sprung up on our fashion radar, and for all the right reasons- she looks like a 50s style siren in the beautifully structured dress.  Gaga? Vanessa Hudgens Vs Carmen Electra in Blu Moon

First it was Courteney Cox and Kate Moss and now Vanessa Hudgens and Carmen Electra are styling it up in snake print. Vanessa wore the Blu Moon dress first back in March to a Sucker Punch party, pairing the dress with a boho inspired head chain, matching shawl and black platform pumps. Carmen wore the dress a few weeks ago with Peep-toe Christian Louboutins, gold jewellery, a lot of black eyeliner and a lot of fake tan.
You can get the Blu Moon dress here for a very reasonable £82.47. I can’t say I’m a great fan of how either of the ladies wear the dress, Vanessa’s look is just a bit too much; the hippy headband, the rather, erm, exciting shawl, all which would be okay on their own, but when thrown together makes her look a bit like she’s in fancy dress. But hey, at least  she attempts to inject some personal style into her outfit, which is more than can be said for Carmen, whose accessorising is uninspired to describe it in the kindest possible way.  Snake print isn’t the easiest trend to pull off and Carmen is in danger of stepping into tacky territory with her mahogany tan and heavy eyeliner. It looks like animal print has truly established itself as one of the hottest trends for this Autumn/Winter coming season as we have yet another grrrreat fashion face-off (sorry, bad gag, couldn’t help myself). The latest victims of this wild look are Kylie Minogue and Leighton Meester. Kylie got her paws on this Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 snow leopard print shift dress first, wearing it to the Ghost musical in London on August 10th. Leighton Meester (or should we say Blair Waldorf) was spotted wearing the dress whilst filming Gossip Girl in New York a few days ago. You can get the same Leopard Print dress for £720 or a  purse-friendly version  for just £92.
I think both ladies look great in the dress so its got to come down to the accessorising, and for me Leighton wins hands down. She paired her print number with tights, 3.1 Phillip Lim ‘Calder’ heels and a red Roger Vivier ‘Dilligence’ bag whilst Kylie wore simple black pumps and a clashing print bag. I know Leighton was told what to wear by a stylist, but for me, accessorising animal print with animal print is the ultimate faux-pas…but what do you think? Vote now!

Leighton Meester Vs Beyonce in Michael Kors

You’ve gotta love Beyonce. She may be sporting a baby bump, but the words ‘maternity wear’ obviously do not feature in Bey’s vocabulary as she sported this Pre-Fall 2011 Michael Kors black chiffon and leather full length dress with cut out detail to attend the Tory Burch Madison Avenue flagship opening in New York just a few days ago. Leighton Meester wore the look first way back in January to the premiere of The Roommate.
You can get the real deal here but at £2,400, it’s not cheap. Why not try this Leather Cut Out Dress, it’s not full length, but you’ll certainly get a high glamour dose of the cut out couture trend.
Leighton wins this time purely as I think the dress is more suited to a lady a bit smaller in the bosom department. I also like her super straight hair, it adds a a sort of Matrix/ dominatrix edge to the look. Leighton may win this fashion face-off but I’d give Beyonce a vote just for her off the scale yummy-mummy factor. Take a quick glance at this photo and you’d be hard pushed to tell one brunette beauty from the other! No need to adjust your computer screens though, as this is infact BFF’s Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham in a  little pink number from her very own Victoria Beckham Spring 2011 Collection. Eva wore the dress first back in April whilst promoting her cookbook, Eva’s Kitchen. She paired the dress with dark sunnies and Brian Atwood Maniac Pumps. Victoria wore her dress to New York’s Nobu restaurant with her standard gravity defying platforms and equally dark sunnies.

Lady Gaga Vs Anna Farish in Moschino

Stop press.Hold the fashion police. Lady Gaga is at it again, she’s dressing like…a normal person! When Lady Gaga appeared at the iHeartRadio music festival last week, looking uncharacteristically chic and demure in this peplum-skirted black Moschino dress, it would seem she was taking style inspiration from the timeless beauty,that is Audrey Hepburn. Gaga paired the dress with oversized shades, costume jewellery and long leather gloves. Anna Faris wore the dress just a few days later to a Marie Claire screening of her new film What’s your number. Anna kept it simple with minimal accessories and black heels with ankle straps.

I can’t quite believe my own ears but for me, Gaga wins this fashion face-off. While Anna looks nice enough, the dress is quite simple and is the perfect canvas for some fun accessorising which Gaga does to a tee. But what do you think? Vote now!

Jennifer Lopez Vs Natasha Poly in Gucci

Wow. I bet Jenny from the block was wishing she’d kept it a bit more ‘real’ when these pictures emerged of Natasha Poly looking sensational at the Venice Film Festival in the same Gucci Fall/Winter 2011 dress as she wore to Met Costume Institute Gala back in May. Whilst Jennifer Lopez teamed her halter gown with keyhole detail with a matching floral shrug (not dissimilar to a Christmas wreath or even a Hawaiian fancy dress garland), matching clutch and a strong red lip and talons, Natasha kept it simple shunning the additional neck ties and adding a gold clutch and matching golden tan.
You can get the real deal here for a cool £3230. If you’re bank balance is looking a bit bleak then take a look at this Halter Maxi Dress. Finding a good Gucci lookalike is a tough job, but this slinky cerise evening dress is a good enough price that you can afford to customise it up with a bow or two if you do so wish. Although J-Lo’s look is a strong and brave one, Natasha wins this fashion face-off for me. I just can’t get on board with the floral neck thing and I think Jennifer’s hair and make up is a bit severe for such a beautiful dress.  Natasha meanwhile shows how less is sometimes so much more. Another day…another outing for a bandage dress in the life of Kim Kardashian’s (very predictable) wardrobe. Kim chose to wear this taupe Herve Leger perforated leather bandage dress at her bachelorette party in Las Vegas on  July 23 2011. She teamed the dress with standard hen night accessories (bright pink sash, fluffy and glittery tiara) but redeems herself slightly with her lovely Jenny knotted peep-toe Christian Louboutins.
Meanwhile Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriend–turned-reality-star Holly Madison wore her dress to collect her “Beautiful Humanitarian Award” at the North American Hair Styling Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas on July 31, 2011. She wore matching nude sandals and minimal accessories-probably a good thing considering the erm, rather busty, revealing neckline of the dress.
The real deal will set you back a hefty £4, 605 but you can get the Herve Leger look in this nude body con dress, a fraction of the price at only £169.99. For me, Holly wins this fashion face-off as I’m fed up of Kim’s same-old style. Kim Kardashian Vs Tulisa Contostavlos in Alexander McQueen

I’m beginning to think that Kim Kardashian either has the style originality of a brick or literally owns every outfit that exists on this planet (the latter which may actually be true), as here she is in yet another fashion face-off. This time she took inspiration from new X Factor sweetheart Tulisa Contostavlos who first wore the Fall 2011 Alexander McQueen frock to the Liverpool X Factor auditions, pairing the dress with Nicholas Kirkwood heels and a fishtail plait-do. Kim wore her dress at the end of August in NYC whilst filming Kourtney and Kim Take New York and accessorised with snake print Christian Louboutins, a black purse and statement necklace.
I love Tulisa,(she once wore a Matalan dress and Primark belt to the Brits-how times have changed) and she wins this time for me. I love her hair and matching red lip and minimal accessorising. In short, I think Kim K’s is a bit, erm, ample in the breast department to pull off such a high neckline, although, it is nice to see her in something other than her standard body con uniform.

Kim Kardashian looking (not so ) original in Gucci

Oh look, its yet another celebrity in a purple and orange get up…yawn.
Latest victim Kim Kardashian, chose this predictable colour code at her London perfume launch. The most offensive thing about this Gucci ensemble is not the fact that it’s rather ill fitting on Kim (her gorgeous curves more spilling over rather than being poured into the outfit) but the fact that it has been worn so many times.
Model Joan Smalls led the pack stomping the catwalk way back in September 2010, during Milan Runway Fashion Week. It was then worn by supermodel Lara Stone on the cover of Paris Vouge back in February. Later that month Spanish beauty Sara Carbonero wore the Gucci Spring Summer 2011 look to the TP de Oro awards (my personal favourite clothes horse of the lot- less midriff baring and more sexy senorita) and then Charlotte Casiraghi wore the look to the Cini Foundation Gala earlier this month. Seriously, get some originality girls…
Want to jump on the bandwagon? You can get the dress here. I’m loathe to suggest purse pleasing alteratives as I’m so fed up of the look but if you must replicate it then this Orange Ruffle Hem Pencil Skirt paired with a Purple Wrap Top would get you the look favoured by oh so many celebs.
