Heavy Metal

All things metallic have been huge this season giving easy, wearable glamour to summer pieces. The best way to wear this stand-out look is to work one key piece paired with an otherwise casual ensemble for a look that will get you noticed for all the right reasons. (Not because you look like a christmas turkey wrapped in tin foil ready for a roasting). If you’re rocking a metallic dress then keep your accessories, shoes and make-up minimal, but if you’re not quite ready to embrace all things shiny then get your metallic fix from statement jewellery and shoes.

Take actress Emma Roberts for example: she shines (literally) in this metallic gold leather Miu Miu dress, pairing it with simple suede black Prada Mary Janes and a black Prada clutch. This isn’t the first time this year that metallics have proven a hit on the red carpet. Way back in February both Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez hit the Grammy’s in dazzling metallic frocks, Selena in a slinky J.Mendel gown and Jlo in a thigh skimming silver Emilio Pucci number. Jlo even put two fingers up to the style rules and went head-to-toe metallic pairing her mini with metallic jewelled clutch, shoes and some serious bling…

Want to get your own slice of shiny action from super talented up and coming designers? I thought as much, so head over to Tellusfashion and check out this amazing Metallic Grey Dress. Team this dramatic knitted dress with simple clutch and court shoes for a simply dazzling look. Designed by Ekaterina Kukhareva, a talented knitwear designer. Want to work the metallic trend but want something a bit more subtle? Then take a look at this statement Gunmetal necklace from Anathema Designs. Designer Sian explains how her jewellery designs “attempts to show how everyday or broken or even ‘ugly’ materials and items can be transformed into something special and beautiful.”
Looks like metallic mania is here to stay. Tellus, What do you think of the trend…?
