Yes, yes you did. It’s time to look back with Itchy to the 90’s fashions you’d rather forget...
Buffalo Shoes
They made you about a foot taller with their gravity-defying platform heel, and every girl wanted a pair. They weren’t cheap either; the sacrifice you had to make to actually own a pair was a solitary box shaped gift waiting underneath the Christmas tree. And nothing else. But it was so worth it to be able to stomp the streets in these Buffalo beauties.
Skirt- Trousers
Whatever possessed a designer to merge together two standalone garments into one very questionable item of clothing, Itchy will never know, but we thought we were the bees knees when we turned up to a year 6 disco in a pair of these bad boys. And with 90s pop sensations Steps leading the way by donning a few pairs, who could blame us?
Jelly Shoes
How could any 90’s kid not have lusted after a pair of these glitter-jelly-heeled sandals? Granted, they were hideously uncomfortable and made your feet sweat like you wouldn’t believe, but in a pair of these you felt like Cinderella in her glass slippers. Jelly shoes even attempted a comeback in Spring 2010 with celebrity fashionistas such as Anne Hathaway rocking the trend. This was understandably short-lived and jelly shoes returned to the 90s, suitably ashamed of themselves.
Adidas Poppers
Whilst nowadays Itchy wouldn’t be seen dead anywhere (bar the gym) in any manner of sportswear, the 90s were a very different story. Led by Sporty Spice high-kicking her way into high fashion, the three stripe tracksuit was thrust into the limelight and became the must-have item for girls and boys alike. These trousers brought a whole new meaning to “ripping your clothes off” and became ammunition for a game of who could “pop” whom, exposing adolescent legs not yet accustomed to the joys of fake tan and shaving.
Shag Bands
The naughty fashion accessory craze. Like the Katy Perry of the Pop world, it looks innocent enough on the outside. These rubber bands adorned the arms of 90s kids in a variety of colours and you NEVER told your mum and dad what all the fuss was about. Of course the rumours behind the bands suggested that if you were to break the bracelet you had to, ahem, well the name speaks for itself...
